Saber o ENDIAN_FORMAT de cada versão de sistema operacional é útil em situações onde o DBA irá migrar determinadas bases de dados entre diferente sistemas operacionais. Esta informação pode ser facilmente consultada na view V$TRANSPORTABLE_PLATFORM conforme exemplo abaixo:
